Warsaw and Wawasee run in Syracuse

 At Wawasee High School , NLC Rival Warsaw was in Syracuse.  In the girls race, Mia Beckham came in first with a time of 20:11.  Wawasee's Courtney Litnemeiar and Sarah Harden came in 2nd and 3rd.  In the Boys race, It was all about Sr Troy Carolus, a student athlete with Autism.  You talk about a dream come true for a young man who works hard every day.  Troy got first, Wawasee's Zach Cochrill was 2nd while Daniel Messenger finished 3rd.

As always the game was close but Notre Dame beats Purdue to stay undefeated. The Irish won 30-14.The win moves Notre Dame to 3-0 and Purdue falls to 1-2.The game was in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the Indianapolis Colts, for the Shamrock Series.Everett Golson threw for 259 yards and had two touchdowns. He also ran for 56 yards and a touchdown. Golson was the leading rusher.Will Fuller had six catches for 51 yards and a touchdown. More>>

Silver Hawks exploring options

 Changes could be coming for the South Bend Silver Hawks.  The team has filed the paperwork and will be able to start exploring options Friday.  They will start talking to other teams next week.   One option would be to return to the  Diamondbacks organization, but they could also end up being the Single A affiliate for the Chicago Cubs, among other teams.

Notre Dame and Purdue put final touches on preparation

 Notre Dame is done practicing for the week. The Irish are favored by 28 1/2 points to beat Purdue.  Tonight Coach Kelly had his final press conference before the show moves to Indianapolis for the Shamrock Series.   Purdue is more of a rival than people think.  They've played each other for 69 straight years.  After Saturday, they'll take 5 years off and then reconvene in 2020.  The Notre Dame players are treating it like just another game.

Everett Golson is gaining national attention after a pair of blowout wins to start the season.  About getting Heisman recognition, Golson said, "Like I said, that is not in my control.  If I go out there and have a bad game I'm no longer in the Heisman race so I just go out and control what I can control and that's my performance on the field."

Kelly says to sink to your preparation

 Coach Kelly has a way of motivating his players with a special theme just like every coach in the country does.  This years makes a lot of sense.  Basically, don't prepare for your competition.  Prepare everyday and the competition will take care of itself.  Coach Kelly said, " we talk about we don't rise to the level of our competition but we sink to the level of our preparation."

Mishawaka executes the "Shively Shuffle"

If you missed our show Saturday, you missed this play at the end of the half for Mishawaka.  With :08 to go, Caveman quarterback Darian Phillips hit Luke Shively who somehow shuffled it off to Tanner Bradley.  It went for a touchdown to end the half. Take a look at the pitch in slo mo.  It was so quick in real motion, it was tough to defend and of course the 6 points was a big momentum builder going into the locker room.

ND Women and UConn to meet after a year off

Notre Dame and Connecticut will play again in the regular season in women's basketball after taking last season off. Parseghian hates to see Purdue series end

Notre Dame coaching great Ara Parseghian says he hates to see the school's annual game against Purdue coming to an end after so many memorable games. The 91-year-old coach led the Irish to a 6-5 record against the Boilermakers. He says the common theme for the Boilermakers when he was coaching was outstanding quarterbacks. Elkhart Central grad Nathan Palmer has been added to the Denver Broncos 53 man roster. The move comes after WR Wes Welker was suspended for 4 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Napalm had 1 catch for 7 yards in the preseason. He spent last year in the Broncos practice squad. In 2005, he played in 5 games with the Colts and had one catch. He was originally signed by the 49'ers coming out of Northern Illinois in 2012. Indy travels to Denver Sunday night. More>>

Notre Dame players not doing the "Chicken Dance"

 Notre Dame continues to prepare for Michigan.  Last year Coach Kelly got under some people's skin because he downplayed the significance of this rivalry.  Then after the game, Brady Hoke trumped that by playing the "Chicken Dance" song after the Woverines beat the Irish.  You know it bugged the ND players, but they're not admitting it to the media.

Brian Barnes resigns from ND Swimming

 Notre Dame women's swimming coach Brian Barnes has resigned after 6 years as head coach.  The Penn graduate told the team Tuesday that he had to give up the job for personal and family reasons.  The Penn grad said, "I've loved every minute that I've been involved with swimming and diving at Notre Dame."  He went on to say he needs to focus more time and attention on his two children.

 It's Michigan week.  An interesting note about this week's game is that the winner will become the all time leader in winning percentage in college football.  ND took over first after winning at the Pinstripe Bowl.  The Irish have a percentage of .7332 while Michigan  is at .7326.  The Wolverines lead in All time wins with 911, Texas is 2nd with 876 and ND is 3rd with 875

Tyler Roahrig learns to walk before he runs

 Tyler Roahrig had an accident in practice at Anderson Speedway in April.  Doctors told him he wouldn't be able to walk until August.  Tuesday at his shop in Inwood, FOX 28 talked to him and saw the progress that he had made during the summer.  He hasn't been able to race, but the wreck hasn't taken away any of his enthusiasm or love for racing.

Lakeshore football starts a new era with Bryan Keim

 Michigan high schools were able to practice for the first time today.  And it was a new era at Lakeshore.  Bryan Keim was the defensive coordinator who replaced Denny Dock who retired after 26 years leading the Lancers.  FOX 28's Adam Shear was at practice to see how the first day went.

 Penn was 12-1 last year, lost to Carmel in the Semi-State.  They also lost quarterback Zach Oakley to graduation.  He's now at Central Michigan.  The Kingsmen will host Carmel in a scrimmage Friday and then open up at home with Valpo on August 22nd.

 NorthWood is starting a new era with a familiar face.  Nate Andrews played for the Panthers under his dad, the legend Jim Andrews.  He warns fans to be patient. But it seems like the right people are getting on board already.   Nate said, "I can't guarantee you how many games we're going to win.  The Notre Dame football team had day 2 of camp today at the Culver Academies.  The Irish will be leaning on defensive back KeVarae Russell this year.  Not a bad idea, especially seeing that he has bulked up quite a bit.  KeiVarae said, "I feel so much stronger. You watch when we get pads on, it's so slippery to hit guys, They sittin there talkin about cover 2 and he's there slippin on me, But once we get pads on you're gonna see how much stronger I am"

   Although he hasn't officially been named, Everett Golson took all of the first team reps Monday.   It was the first day of Fall Camp and the Irish are practicing the first week at Culver Academies.  Golson said, "I'm ready.  I'm ready to go.  My summer.  We talked about my summer was pretty good.  Trying to get back in and win this thing."

Hill United Men's Fastpitch wins the ASA Major

 The Hill United Chiefs from New York won the Men's Major ASA National Championship in South Bend Sunday.  The Chiefs beat the New York Gremlins 7-4 in the championship.  These guys are already planning to come back to South Bend next year for the prestigious ISC World Tournament.
