Associated Press - June 23, 2009 7:34 PM ET

AKRON, Ind. (AP) - Police in northern Indiana say a man who was upset his ex-girlfriend was getting text messages from another man stabbed a third man at a party.

Police say 18-year-old Andrew J. Runyon of Akron got angry at a party in Kosciusko County early Tuesday. They tell WSBT-TV 19-year-old Zachary T. Smith and several others tried to calm Runyon down. They say Runyon cut Smith's forearm and thigh.

Smith was rushed to Kosciusko Community Hospital for surgery.

Runyon has been charged with felony aggravated battery and has a $10,000 bond. The county jail didn't have a record Tuesday evening of whether he had a lawyer.
