KAWKAWLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Efforts are under way to save a historic icehouse in Bay County.
The Bay City Times reports the icehouse sits behind The Leona, a vacation home built around the turn of the 20th century in Kawkawlin Township, about 100 miles north-northwest of Detroit.
A Bay City couple recently bought the property and the old bungalow is being razed.
The icehouse was next to face the wrecking crew, but the family that built the building and owned it for generations is raising money to save it.
Larry Chambers, a founder of the Linwood Pickle Festival, says that for $1,000, the 25-foot-tall building could be moved to nearby Linwood, where it could become a historical museum.
