MUNGER, Mich. (AP) - A 10-year-old beekeeper won't abandon his swarm after a bee attack forced him into the family pool for safety.
The Bay City Times reports Saturday that Ryan Christensen of Munger, 11 miles northeast of Saginaw, was unsure how he set off the attack last Sunday. Remembering that bees don't like water, Christensen - in full beekeeping gear - dove into the pool.
Ryan's father Michael Christensen raced home from the county fairgrounds after a frantic phone call from the boy's mother. After being unable to find his protective suit, the elder Christensen plunged into the pool and rescued his son.
Ryan says bees don't try to hurt you, "but I think I hurt a queen bee and that upset them."
