Elkhart celebrates Octoberfest Saturday

Posted:

A big Octoberfest celebration kicks of in downtown Elkhart Saturday at 1 p.m.

Unfortunately, it was too wet to put up the beer tent and other tents Friday afternoon, but the restaurants are gearing up for crowds.

They'll have two bands, face painting for the kids, corn hole tournaments, crafts and food specials.

Eight different restaurants are involved and are calling it the "8 Stop Tour" of over 150 beers that will be featured.

From 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., it's family time, and from 5 p.m. to midnight, it's adults only.

Steve Gruber, Executive Director of Downtown Elkhart says, "I think it's to build awareness of how much entertainment we have here. There's been a lot of physical improvement. There's been a lot of building along the river walk, much improved park and landscaping, so it's just really to get people who may be from Elkhart but haven't been downtown for a while to say 'Hey, this is pretty cool.'"

The celebration will be along South Michigan Street in Elkhart and there's no cover charge.
