Potato Creek State Park in North Liberty will host two goose hunts in November.
The park's lake and wetlands will be closed for the hunts, which will take place on November 9-10 and November 16-17.
Officials say there are hundreds of Canada geese in the park. They're eating too much vegetation, affecting the number of other water fowl and making quite a mess.
"Imagine if you had four, five hundred geese that spent the night on the beach, then you went out there with your toddler or to play in the sand," said park naturalist Tim Cordell. "The next day, the droppings can definitely be an issue."
Cordell says their hunters have already applied to participate. If you didn't apply and you want to take part, they will have a standby draw each day.
