HAMLET, Ind. (AP) - Police say a man driving a stolen wrecker was killed when it plunged off a northern Indiana highway overpass and struck a bridge abutment.
The Starke County Sheriff's Department says the wrecker pulling a van had been taken from a Plymouth towing business and was spotted late Thursday by a police officer in the town of Hamlet.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled onto U.S. 30. Police say the wrecker went out of control on the highway's overpass at U.S. 35 about 30 miles southwest of South Bend.
The driver's name was not immediately released.
