An Elkhart company announces an expansion that will at least double it's workforce over the next three years.
Kem Krest plans to invest 3.3 million dollars to expand it's headquarters in an existing facility on Toledo Road.
Last night, city council unanimously voted in favor of granting the company a 5-year property tax phase in.
The automotive supply distributor is also getting some tax credits from Indiana's Economic Development Corporation.
The owners, who were born and raised in Elkhart, say the strong workforce and low cost of doing business were big factors in their decision to stay, but they weren't the only reasons.
Amish Shah, President and Co-Owner of Kem Krest says,
"We reviewed different states and cities. We looked to different incentive packages. We looked at employment. We looked at many different things. But, when it all came down to it, we realized this was the community we wanted to be in. We wanted to be here to support Elkhart. Elkhart has always supported us."The company employs 50 people right now and Shah says they will be looking for packers, order processors and people to work in their warehouse in the future.
