The Nappanee Police Department held it's annual remembrance ceremony for Sgt. Butch Nine.
He was shot in killed while on duty back in 1988. The department says ever since, his presence has been missed on the force.
"Sgt. Nine was a good officer, he was a good guy to learn from. Out here working the streets, if you had a call and Butch showed up, you knew things were going to be taken care of," said Chief Mike Anglin.
Sgt. Nine's partner that night, Officer Phillip Hochstetler was later killed in the line of duty in 1994 while serving with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
