A Syracuse man is listed in serious condition after crashing his moped along State Road 13 just south of Syracuse on Thursday afternoon.
Jerry Werenicz, 59, suffered a head injury and was listed in serious condition on Friday morning at Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne.
According to witnesses from the crash yesterday, Werenicz had been driving northbound on SR 13 East of Nash Drive when he reportedly began to swerve for an unknown reason. Werenicz then drove off the right side of the roadway striking his head in the ditch-line area. Werenicz was wearing a "bicycle" style helmet at the time and was transported by the Syracuse E.M.S. to the Wawasee High School where he was airlifted by Lutheran Air.
The Kosciusko County F.A.C.T./Critical Accident Team is still investigating the crash and awaiting legal blood draws at this time.
