The City of Elkhart has decided against a ban specifically on pit bulls. A special committee decided to throw out the breed-specific ban on Monday night. However, the city is still discussing amending their proposed animal control ordinance to ban vicious and dangerous animals, though the exact language has not yet been written. The original legislation included a ban on pit bulls in the wake of an attack on a four-year-old Elkhart girl earlier this year. The committee will hold a public hearing before making its final recommendation to the City Council.
