They said goodbye to an old friend in downtown South Bend Tuesday night.
A special prayer service was held in the atrium of the soon-to-be former St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Employees and community members celebrated the hospital's 125-year history at that location.
Although they're moving into a new state-of-the-art facility, employees say they're going to miss the old building.
"If the walls could speak, the beautiful history of care, compassion, faith-based care. Our people give more than just caring for the body but for the mind and spirit as well," said Sister Laureen Painter, a SJRMC employee.
The new St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on Douglas Road in Mishawaka is set to open next month.
The current site in downtown South Bend has been donated to St. Joseph's High School.
