Detroit's parade blends marches, hip-hop, Motown

Associated Press - November 26, 2009 12:14 PM ET

DETROIT (AP) - Marching music, jazz, hip-hop and Motown blended in the streets of downtown Detroit as tens of thousands of people watched the 83rd annual America's Thanksgiving Parade.

The loudest cheers during the 2-hour event were reserved for Santa Claus, who brought up the rear. The parade also included 25 floats and hundreds of clowns.

Street vendor Oliver Clay of Detroit was seeing steady business selling hot dogs, Polish sausage and bottled water.

Clay says people are in a good mood despite the cold weather, adding they'll be in an even better mood if the Detroit Lions manager to beat the Green Bay Packers at nearby Ford Field later Thursday.
