Notre Dame campus mood down over losing streak

After losing the last four games of the season, some Notre Dame fans say they're ready for some changes.  The odds were against the Irish going into the Stanford game so most fans I spoke with say they weren't expecting a win.  But a loss always seems to bring down the mood on campus and throughout Michiana.

"We're a football school and should be winning," said Notre Dame Student Steven Brownell.

But lately that isn't what the Irish football team's doing.  As gloomy clouds set in over Notre Dame's campus, the weather echoes the sentiments felt by some like Junior Steven Brownell.

"The team lost a lot of support last year and this year people really got down on the team," said Brownell.

"When the team looses you have to pin it on somebody," said Notre Dame Student Brad Cordova.

And many fingers are pointing towards head coach Charlie Weis.  After five seasons in South Bend, some say it's time for him to go.

"I, like a lot of students, want him to leave," said Brownell.

"After all of these losing games I guess it's time for him to go," said Notre Dame Student Federico Valiente.

But others like Junior Brad Cordova wonder if Weis is being unfairly blamed for the team's failures.

"I'm not really sure if it's just his fault.  He certainly hasn't done anything good or bad in my opinion," said Cordova.

Quarterback Jimmy Clausen and Wide Receiver Golden Tate could also see the door right along with Weis, of course on their own accord.  Both are looking toward the National Football League leaving the Fighting Irish behind.  And Senior Federico Valiente says he can't blame them for possibly moving on.

"It'd be great if they came back...I probably wouldn't come back," said Valiente.

Regardless of what changes are made after the regular season, all Irish fans want more of one thing next season: Wins.

"Hopefully the next coach will recruit top talent both defense and offense and that'll help make the team play way better next season," said Valiente.

After a somber Thanksgiving weekend on campus, students say they are thankful for a brighter future next season.
