Construction starts on new Notre Dame ice rink

Starting next week, you may notice some changes on Notre Dame's campus.

Construction crews will start working on the site for the new ice rink. The new rink will be north of Angela Boulevard and just south of the Joyce center.

Crews will start next week prepping for construction, working on the site and utilities.

University employees say it will be easier for fans to access.

University Spokesperson Dennis Brown says, "The other important component, it has two sheets of ice that's to provide more availability to local hockey teams and skating clubs that have limited availability of ice time right now."

With construction beginning you may notice some road closures on campus. Three campus roads will be shut down starting next week. Those include Holy Cross Drive, Joyce Drive from the entrance of Angela Boulevard and Old Edison Road.

Employees say it shouldn't have too much of an affect on traffic, and they may temporarily open some roads for major events.

The project is suppose to be finished in late fall of 2011.
