South Shore train hits car, 2 dead, train delayed

Two people are dead after a South Shore train hit a vehicle.

The train struck a vehicle at Lake/Porter County Line Road crossing.  The vehicle was southbound and went around the crossing gates in front of the train.  There were two deaths and two injuries in the automobile.  No one on the train was injured.

Two women in the car died Friday. The Lake County coroner's office identified them as 20-year-old Taajae McKinley of East Chicago and 19-year-old Victoria A. Lucio of Gary.

Police say the baby was seated in a booster seat but wasn't properly restrained in an appropriate infant seat. No one on the train reported being injured.
