Whirlwind weekend for Notre Dame recruiting: Irish nab 4 recruits

Posted:

It's been a great 24 hours for the Notre Dame football team.

Brian Kelly received verbal commitments from 4 players with the whirlwind weekend being capped off by 4-star defensive end Aaron Lynch from Florida.

Lynch is the top defensive recruit ND has landed since Manti Te'o.

He chose the Irish over Florida and Florida State and also had offers from schools including Alabama, Clemson, North Carolina and Ohio State.

Lynch plans to enroll early at Notre Dame in January in order to start college early and be ready for spring practice in 2011.

This weekend's four recruits in 24 hours makes up 25-percent of the 2011 class.

The Irish start practice with the 2010 group one week from Saturday.

Lynch and his mom Alice spent the morning spreading the ashes of grandfather John around the Notre Dame campus. John Lynch passed away on May 3rd but was a big supporter of his grandson joining the Irish.

Lynch joins three other recruits who committed to the Irish Friday. According to our partners at Irisheyes.com, Cornerback Jalen Brown from MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas made his decision late last night to join Notre Dame's 2011 class.

He committed to Notre Dame without visiting campus. The first time he'll get a chance to see Notre Dame will be his official visit in the fall.

Brown finished his junior season with 36 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery.

He chose Notre Dame over Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Nebraska

Also on defense, Anthony Rabasa, a 6-3, 215 pound 3-star defensive end from Miami, Florida said yes to Coach Kelly's staff.

And on offense, 4-star runningback Justice Hayes is coming to South Bend by way of Grand Blanc, Michigan. He's 5-10 with 4.45 speed and listed as the 16th best runningback in America. Hayes chose the Irish over Michigan and Michigan State.

Notre Dame has 16 commitments for the 2011 recruiting class.
