
IONIA, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan man is standing trial in the 2012 death of 1 of his twin infant sons. Testimony began yesterday in the trial of 28-year-old Keith Thibeault of Portland. Authorities say Everette Thibeault was brought to a Lansing hospital in March 2012 with injuries consistent with physical abuse. The 3-month-old child later died.
DETROIT (AP) - Authorities say a 55-year-old woman is dead and two men wounded following a shooting at a vacant Detroit residence believed to have been used for drug activity. Police say the three were found shot earlier today. Circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation.
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Police are seeking charges against three East Lansing High School students after a Jewish classmate found a swastika carved into her locker. Police Lieutenant Scott Wriggelsworth says investigators, school officials and the girl's family agreed that the best way to handle the incident was to charge the three students with misdemeanor malicious destruction of property. Superintendent Dave Chapin says "appropriate disciplinary actions" have been taken against the students.
FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Flint officials want the state Legislature to approve an income tax increase in the city to help stabilize its finances. State-appointed emergency manager Ed Kurtz says a 0.5% income tax increase to Flint residents and a 0.25% increase to workers living outside the city would generate $7 million annually. Flint faces a $19.1 million combined deficit from 2012.
