LEXINGTON, Ohio (AP) - Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay turned in the best time during IndyCar practice Friday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Hunter-Reay, who won the pole at last year's race at Mid-Ohio, finished in 1:06.5316 for an average speed of 122.18 mph in the morning session.

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) - Colts left guard Donald Thomas will require season-ending surgery to repair his injured right quad. Coach Chuck Pagano says an MRI confirmed the diagnosis. Thomas also missed most of last season with a torn right quad in Week 2. The Colts also said he had offseason surgery to repair a torn biceps.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Johnny Lujack's granddaughter says the former Notre Dame and Chicago Bears star is in good spirits after spinal surgery. A spokeswoman for Mayo Clinic says the former quarterback is doing "very well." Amy Flanagan says her grandfather is in good spirits.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Wily Peralta won his 13th game to tie for the National League lead and Aramis Ramirez powered the Milwaukee Brewers with a home run and RBI double off St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright in a 7-4 victory Friday night. Jonathan Lucroy's bases-clearing double chased Wainwright (13-6) in a four-run sixth inning that put Milwaukee up by six. The NL Central leaders are three games ahead of the Cardinals.
