    Nitrates, nicotine, deet, and other toxins were discovered in St. Joe County water in December 2013, following a year-long study. Northeast Granger and Gilmer Park on the south side of South Bend are the areas affected by the contamination. The county health department points to septic systems as the cause for the problem.   • WWGA National Championship moves to match play at Knollwood

    WWGA National Championship moves to match play at Knollwood

      WWGA National Junior Championships are at Knollwood Country Club. Penn graduate Kari Bellville started her day in the top ten.  She finished the day with a 79 in 9th place.    Maddison Chestnut, is another Kingsmen competing and shot 88 - 89.  Ohio's Chole Bradburn made a long putt for a par for an 86.  But Shawn Rennegarbe from Illinois probably had the highlight of the day with a 50 foot putt. The Championship runs through Friday.

  • MBA 17-u team is AAU National Runner-up

     MBA Select's Girls 17-U team finished as the National Runner up Tuesday in the prestigious Blue Star AAU Nationals in Augusta, Georgia.   There were 48 teams there.  MBA lost to Iowa Kingdom 64-49.  Local players include NorthWood's Jordyn Frantz, Penn's Lauren Ellenberger, Madeline Raster and Mary Willeman from St. Joe, Taylor Wesley from Washington,  Elyse Zimmerman from Niles and Lauren Grewe from Mishawaka.  Congratulations to all the kids.

     After winning the Senior Little League World Series last year, the South Bend District 11 All-Stars are heading back to Delaware looking to defend their title this weekend. The team is made up of 15-16 year old girls who are all from schools around the South Bend area.
