Gebo wins South Bend Metro for first time in 33 years

It was the final round of the South Bend Men's golf Metro out at Blackthorn.

Steve Ziolkowski came in as the leader, but shot a 45 on the front 9 and finished out with an 82 to finish 7th.

Stan Gebo took his spot as the leader, but he shot a double-boagie on 16.  While Brandon Knutson putt gave him the lead on 16.  Knutson shot a 1-under 71 for the final round.

So it came down to the final hole.  Gebo had an awesome 3rd shot on 18, then putted in for birdie for the win.

Gebo shot even par 72 in the final round and finished at 1-under overall to win his 5th South Bend Metro title.

The 66 year old won his first SB Metro in 1965, won four more over the next ten years, then took 33 years before returning to the top.

"It's been since 1975, a long time," Gebo said.  "But, I never give up."

Knutson finished 2nd at even par.  Jimmy Joachim finished 3rd with a 218.  There was a 2-way tie for 4th between KC Wiseman and Kyle Demeter at 219.  Defending champion Loren Crosbie finished at 4-over 220.
