BMV expands hours for voters needing photo IDs

Posted:

The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced that it will extend it's hours on Monday, Nov. 2 and Tuesday, Nov. 3, in order to help people get state ID cards they may need for voting.

Branches in St. Joseph and LaPorte counties will be open Monday, Nov. 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Branches will be open on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

These hours will also apply to full service branches in Dubois, Franklin, Lake, Marion, Perry, Porter, Ripley, and Well counties.

The Indiana BMV provides free, state-issued ID cards for voting purposes to any unlicensed Hoosier, as long as they can provide proper documentation and is old enough to vote. The following documents are required to obtain a state identification card or driver's license (a complete list can be found at www.mybmv.IN.gov.):

  • A primary document, such as a birth certificate or passport.
  • A secondary document, such as a pay check stub or a signed credit card.
  • Proof of residency, such as a utility bill.

Hours go back to normal at all branches on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
