Democratic legislative leaders are criticizing Republican Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller for joining 13 other states in challenging the nearly $1 trillion federal health care overhaul.
Indiana House Speaker Pat Bauer of South Bend and Senate Minority Leader Vi Simpson of Bloomington say joining the litigation wastes taxpayer dollars at a time when the state is cutting its funding to schools.
Bauer has asked Zoeller for a full disclosure of the tax dollars his office spends on the litigation. He says Indiana's participation will not change the outcome of the case but cause the state to bear a full share of the costs.
Zoeller spokesman Bryan Corbin says the work is being done in-house by employees who'd be paid their same state salaries anyway.
