You've probably seen Charlie Weis Jr on the sidelines at Notre Dame games over the years. Now he's working the sidelines for the St Joe's high school football team as an assistant coach.
The Indians have added two students to their coaching staff and it's probably no surprise, Jr is a chip off the old block.
That was Charlie Weis Jr when he first arrived on Notre Dame's campus, now he knows exactly what he wants to do.
"I want to be a college coach some day,"
Weis and Tyler Gillean share the same passion for coaching and the two are living out that dream on St Joe's staff. Indians head coach Kevin Downey wanted to help them achieve their goal and he's made them an important part of the program.
"They're both pretty good at what they do, I wouldn't be surprised to see them coaching on Saturday or Sunday some day," Downey said.
The two spend the majority of their time in the tape room, breaking down coverages and picking apart schemes.
Charlie Jr grew up on the sidelines. So, it's no surprise, he would follow in his father's footsteps.
"Unfortunatley, that's what he wants to do. He's been around it his whole life, the NFL or Notre Dame. He's passionate about it, it's what he wants to do," Weis said. "He wants to go to Notre Dame and then he wants to coach football and he'd prefer to coach in college, that's really what he wants to do."
"They all tell me not to go into coaching, but I'm going to anyway," Jr said.
"I think he has an unfair advantage than other perspective coaches. It gives him a rare opportunity that 15 year old kids don't get to do. Forget about being on the sidelines and being part of the psyche of sports," Weis added.
When it comes right down to it, Jr wants to be just like his dad.
"Oh yeah, definitely, he's probably who I look up to and stuff... as a coach and as a person."
Since the Indians implemented their tape program with Weis, Jr and Gillean, St Joe's is 11-1.
