Local woman runs freebies web site

Posted:

Most people are looking to save money and cut expenses these days and we'd like to help.

Throughout this month, we'll be bringing you stories about Frugal Fixes, ways to help you make ends meet and stretch your dollars.

With that in mind, how would you like to get products you use everyday for free!

Some in Michiana are finding freebies are just a click away.

Traci Phipps, owner of the web site WorldwideFreebies.com says, "Well, I don't have to buy soaps or shampoos or cleaning supplies really anymore, at all, because they come free in the mail, usually full size products."

Elkhart's Traci Phipps started by requesting a free diaper sample when her son was a baby and quickly got the bug for requesting free stuff.

Four years later, her hobby of signing up for freebies has become a small business.

She runs the web site WorldwideFreebies.com and lets everyone else in on what freebies are out there.

Her web site is seeing a thousand hits a day in this difficult economy.

"It is very easy."  Phipps says.  "A lot of people don't even know that you can get free stuff. They see free and they think that there's some sort of catch. But, there's really no catch. All you need to do is fill out the form and request it and between 2 and 8 weeks the products arrive in the mail."

She gets free magazines, books, health and beauty products, you name it.

She recommends using her web site or even Googling to find free sample offers.

One big recommendation she makes is to create an e-mail address you won't mind getting spam to because a lot of the freebies bring spam with them.

Sean Craig is no doubt one of the leaders and key players for the Niles Vikings football team. He's a senior and one of the toughest kids in Southwest Michigan. Some would say he's "a chip off the old block". He's just like his dad. For Craig, there could be no greater compliment. His father, James Craig, passed away earlier this week.More >>

They're calling it a success: South Bend's second gang leader call-in.
