Finding free stuff on Freecycle

Posted:

These days one man's trash really is another man's treasure.

Many in Michiana are starting to use the web site Freecycle to get things they need for free.

Rita Strang's first experience with Freecycle was in January, when she got her dog Tia on the web site.

Tia is a Siberian Husky who's family was facing some financial difficulties and had to give her away to a good home.

Strang's family responded and got a beautiful, well-trained dog who they've fallen in love with.

And just a couple weeks ago, Strang needed a printer for business so she logged onto Freecycle and found a lady in Goshen had an extra on her hands.

The only thing she had to do was go pick it up.

Rita Strang who uses 'Freecycle' web site says, "(the) whole point behind freecycle is to keep things out of the landfill, and maybe, I don't want something but someone else can use it and rather than throw it in the trash, re-use it."

In addition to recycling, the idea behind Freecylce is also about helping others.

You can request items or post items to give away.

Strang says she's noticed more and more people using it in the last 6 months.

Sean Craig is no doubt one of the leaders and key players for the Niles Vikings football team. He's a senior and one of the toughest kids in Southwest Michigan.
