As always, we're teaming with the Salvation Army, Combined Community Services and two community partners.
Our corporate sponsors Lake City Bank and Meijer presented checks Thursday to kick-off the program.
This is Meijer's first year with Adopt-A-Family. They say they jumped at the chance to help out.
Rick Zeefe, Meijer Store Director, said, "We're a family owned company so to be able to do something like this, yeah, it is a little more special than some of the other events."
The Salvation Army is now taking applications for the program both for eligible families and donors. If you would like to help, an adoption can be something as simple as buying a couple new toys and food for the family. If that's a stretch for you, you can also donate a basket of personal care and hygiene items. Any donations can be dropped off at your local Salvation Army.
Maj. Robert Webster of The Salvation Army said, "It's just amazing how many people have called already and said, 'Can you help us?' They're just walking in saying, 'Can I sign up? Can I get some help?' So, we're really kind of bracing for almost an onslaught of people signing up in need."
To help thousands of those families in need during the holidays, FOX 28 is once again gearing up for our Adopt-A-Family Program.
