Michiana police want you to keep in mind one of the most dangerous elements of winter driving is the one you can't see.
With the snowy season about to begin, they want you to be ready for black ice. When the conditions are icy, police say you need to slow down and leave more space between you and other cars.
"If you leave a decent distance between you and the car in front of you and behind you then everybody should be able to avoid collisions even if you do hit some ice," said Capt. Phil Trent of the South Bend Police Department.
Trent says you should always have an ice scraper in your car because windshield obstructions are a major cause of winter accidents.
