A La Porte County man is the victim of a drunk driving accident.

Just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, an SUV carrying three men crashed into a concrete barrier on Hupp Road, east of U.S. Highway 35.  Deputies found Brad Boilini, 31, of rural La Porte, dead in the backseat.

Jacob Christner, 30, of Fish Lake was driving the SUV when it crashed.  His blood alcohol concentration of .20% put him well over twice the legal limit, and he faces felony charges of Operating While Intoxicated - Causing a Death.  Christner suffered minor cuts from the crash but refused treatment.

A third man, Paul Chlupacek or rural Walkerton, fled from the crash scene but has since been found.  He suffered minor injuries.

According to a report from the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department, the SUV driven by Christner was traveling east along Hupp Road.  The east bound lane of Hupp Road was closed and narrows to one lane, but Christner failed to merge into the westbound lane and hit the concrete barrier that was used to close the lane.  Signs and barrels were posted at the time of the crash, warning of the lane closure.  At the time of the crash, the pavement was slick due to sleet and freezing rain.
