More than 5 million people go to the hospital with chest pains every year. And a local hospital is celebrating an accreditation in that area. Memorial Hospital of South Bend just received their full accreditation as a chest pain center for the third time. It makes Memorial one of only 22 hospitals in Indiana with the recognition and the only hospital in St. Joseph County.
"It took a lot of work from a lot of people from our 9-11 dispatchers, our EMS providers, our emergency room staff, our cardiology department staff, the cardiology physicians and emergency room physicians in the department. It was a combined effort by a lot of people to make this happen," said Memorial Emergency Care Chris Burlingame says.
Burlingame says to keep the accreditation, they have to continue to meet tough standards and constantly improve their care.
