Voice of radio in Michiana is changing

Posted:

The voices you hear on local radio are about to change.

Tommy and the bartender are signing off after more than four years on 95.7 WAOR.

"It's been great. Michiana has opened their hearts and arms to us," says Tommie Lee, morning show DJ.

Craig "the bartender" Williams will stay on 95.3. Tommie Lee will be leaving the radio station. Lee says he will continue working on his novel, which he hopes to get published sometime this year.

It's all part of a shift coming to local radio Monday morning.

"It's just the beginning for them and it's just the beginning for us. We both have a tremendous opportunity to move onto the next level," says Mike Ragz, WAOR program director.

Ragz says they're moving channels. WAOR will still exist, they are just moving to 95.7. That channel will also carry "The Bob and Tom show".

The current channel 95.3 will soon become Newstalk MNC 95.3.

Just down the street, Newstalk 960 is preparing for some changes of their own. They're losing Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, which are both rumored to be starting up Monday on Newstalk 95.3. Program Director Bob Montgomery says they're gaining the opportunity to do more local news talk.

"We don't have to wait for someone in New York City to decided what's important to us that day," says Montgomery.
