Indiana's top health official says public health care could be made more efficient with a regional approach.
State Health Commissioner Gregory Larkin met this week with officials from five northwest Indiana counties to discuss how they might pool their resources to attain a greater level of standardized services.
Larkin says areas where a regional approach might work include monitoring health trends, education and restaurant inspections.
In northwest Indiana, he says Porter, Lake, LaPorte, Jasper and Newton counties might form a group. Larkin says a state task force could be set up to explore the idea and establish a pilot program.
He says the decision on whether to participate would be up to county commissioners.
