The city of Mishawaka honored its Vietnam War vets on Wednesday.
Mayor Dave Wood proclaimed it "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day." Wood was following a U.S. Senate resolution earlier this year that encouraged communities across America to honor those who fought in Vietnam.
He said the city wanted to honor Vietnam vets who didn't exactly get a hero's welcome when the war ended.
"Mishawaka is a city that honors its veterans," said Wood. "We have very prominent displays of our honor to our veterans here in Mishawaka and this is just one extension of that."
"It means a lot to everybody that was on active duty during the Vietnam era," said U.S. Navy veteran Bob Eberlein.
Twenty Mishawaka residents were killed in service during the Vietnam War.
