Saturday marks the groundbreaking for Unity Gardens across South Bend.
They'll be holding a special season groundbreaking at the Unity Garden in the LaSalle Square area at noon.
The mayor will be on hand and other dignitaries will plant some early seeds, as well.
They started the first Unity Garden in 2008 in response to the need for food and to address poverty.
Last year, there were 34 Unity Gardens across the city.
People used to come mainly for food, but the Unity Gardens have now become a gathering place.
Mitch Yaciw, the Unity Garden Coordinator says, "It kind of morphed into educating people on how to grow their own food and into just bringing the neighborhood together because that's all a big part of it. In the summer, there will be 50 - 75 people here in July just visiting."
This year different organizations are adopting a bed to weed and they are also putting in more kids gardens.
