DETROIT (AP) - Rick Porcello pitched eight impressive innings as the Detroit Tigers snapped New York's five-game winning streak last night by beating the Yankees 5-2. Porcello joined teammate Max Scherzer as the American League's only 15-game winners. The 25-year-old right-hander threw a shutout in his previous start against Tampa Bay.

DETROIT (AP) - Detroit right-hander Anibal Sanchez isn't sure when he might return from a right pectoral strain after a setback this week left him dealing with more pain. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus says Sanchez will not be able to return for Saturday's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox. Sanchez is 8-5 with a 3.46 ERA but hasn't pitched since August 8th.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - Detroit Lions wide receiver Ryan Broyles says he's fully healthy and in a good position to win a roster spot this season. The 2012 second-round draft pick has been thrust into a position competition by the arrivals of free agent receiver Golden Tate and rookie tight end Eric Ebron. Broyles is battling Kris Durham, veteran Kevin Ogletree and 2013 Lions practice squad player Corey Fuller.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit Lions acquired former Dolphins tight end Michael Egnew and former Eagles fullback Emil Igwenagu yesterday. Egnew played in all 16 games for Miami in 2013. Igwenagu spent most of his two seasons in Philadelphia on the practice squad.
