CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - NASCAR has suspended Denny Hamlin's crew chief and car chief for six races for a failed post-race inspection at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Darian Grubb and Wesley Sherrill are both suspended through the September 6th race at Richmond. Hamlin and team owner Joe Gibbs were both also docked 75 points in the driver and owner standings.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Indiana State has been picked to finish last in the Missouri Valley Football Conference standings. The poll of league coaches, media and sports information directors was released yesterday. Three-time defending national champion North Dakota State was picked to win the conference title.

CHICAGO (AP) - The NCAA has agreed to settle a class-action head injury lawsuit. A federal court filing obtained by The Associated Press says the NCAA will create a $70 million fund to test current and former college athletes for brain injuries. Brian Hainline, the NCAA's chief medical officer, says the settlement provisions will "ensure student-athletes have access to high quality medical care."

CHICAGO (AP) - Catcher John Baker scored the winning run in the bottom of the 16th inning to give the Chicago Cubs a 4-3 win over the Colorado Rockies in a game that didn't end until early Wednesday. Baker also got the victory after pitching a scoreless top half of the 16th. The game lasted 6 hours, 27 minutes, a record for longest game by time for both teams.
