Before the snow hit in Michiana on Tuesday, Fox 28 talked with some people about how they felt about the snow on the way. Believe it or not, people say they're ready for it, including those who are responsible for driving others around in it.
Jennifer Lubelski is finishing up her six weeks of school bus driver training. This will be the first winter storm she's driven in on the job. She says she's just a little nervous, but not really about her abilities behind the wheel.
"Other drivers. Definitely, the public. Not paying attention," says Lubelski.
Those "other drivers" are also bracing for the first storm of the season. They say everyone always needs to re-learn how to drive in it.
"It's gonna be wet out. It's gonna be slippery. You have to watch for black ice. If you have to be somewhere, just leave a couple minutes early and take your time," says Jackson Livingston of Osceola.
Driving aside, folks in Michiana say they're actually excited about the snow.
"I'm ready for it. We got through Thanksgiving, so it gets you in the holiday spirit," says Laurie Main of Osceola.
Zack Miller of Osceola says, "I'm about ready for snow. The dark, dreary, wet, rainy stuff, I'm about sick of. So I'm ready to bring on the snow.
At the same time, folks say it doesn't need to stick around forever.
"When it's here, it's nice for about a month, then after about a month, I wish it would just go away," says Livingston.
The Elkhart County Highway Department says during a snow event you can assume all plows are out clearing roads. They start with major four lane roads first and then start working on subdivisions and minor roads, so just try to be patient.
