Police: Murdered Mishawaka woman was stabbed and beaten

Mishawaka Police say a woman found dead Thursday was beaten and stabbed.  An autopsy performed Friday on 84-year-old Lois Hickey showed she suffered multiple wounds.

Neighbors became concerned Thursday after noticing a broken window at Hickey's home in the 300 Block of East Donaldson Avenue.  Her car was also missing, but was eventually found by Mishawaka Police.

Detectives found blood at the scene that did not belong to Hickey.  They believe the suspect was injured, and are asking for the public's help in solving the case.  If you notice someone acting strange, with a fresh unexplained wound, you're urged to call police.

Neighbors say Hickey lived alone.  They described her as an independent woman who often tended to her yard, and shoveled snow on her own.

Police say there is no indication Hickey knew her attacker.
