Police in South Bend are investigating a shooting that sent a woman and her seven-year-old son to the hospital.
It happened around 10:30 last night in the 1100 block of East Madison Avenue. Police say multiple shots were fired into their home from a back bedroom window. The seven-year-old boy was shot in the arm and the mother was cut by flying debris. They were both taken to the hospital and police say they're going to be fine. No one else was hurt but there were 4 other kids inside the house at the time of the shooting. Police say the shooting was not random.
"There was evidence of powder burns on the side of the house," says Captain Phil Trent with the South Bend Police Department, "which would indicate very, very close proximity between the shooter and the house so this individual was not standing a great distance away and this was stray rounds---this was six, presumably intentional, shots into the house."
Police say they do have a witness who saw someone in between this house and a neighboring house but they don't have any suspects at this time.
