Twenty-six year-old Pierre Louise DeVaugh Smith of Hammond Indiana was driving near the Portage Toll Plaza in Porter County around 4:30 Saturday morning when he lost control on the snow and icy road.
The van spun into the left lane where a semi flatbed trailer broadsided it.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, the semi-driver was treated for minor injuries.
