The U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers has approved $693,000 in funding for dredging and maintenance
work at St. Joseph
Harbor.
Shoaling had made the harbor inaccessible to commercial traffic. The funds included the $100,000
allocated for emergency dredging last December.
In a
statement, Congressman Fred Upton, whose district includes Saint
Joseph and Benton Harbor, said, "we are very appreciative of the Army
Corps for their continued efforts to keep our Michigan harbors open and ready for
business."
