Notre Dame's victory
celebration took a scary turn Tuesday night as one of their players had to receive
medical attention. FOX28 has learned that junior reserve basketball
player Frederica Miller collapsed in the locker room causing quite a scare
among her teammates and coaches.
FOX28's Casey Jones was
at the game and saw Frederica get fouled in the second half with 7:36 to
go in the game. Miller apparently was hit in the head and knocked to the
floor by a flagrant foul by Providence's Alicia Cropper. She was
attended to and helped up by Notre Dame Trainer Anne Maquez. She returned and
played for 3:26 before taken out for good.
A local police officer
told FOX28 that Miller collapsed in the locker room after the game. He
said medics were then called in to take her to the hospital.
Allison Hayes of FOX28
was at the game and witnessed players leaving an autograph session hastily
following the victory for what was termed "an emergency in the locker
room".
FOX28 Sports Director
Dean Huppert asked a Notre Dame Sports Information representative today if Frederica
was in the hospital, what her status is, and if her collapsing was a result of
an accident during the Providence game. His response via text message
was, "No comment".
Notre Dame beat
Providence 66-47 to improve to 25-2.
