Walk raises money for Elkhart County homeless

Posted:

Dozens walked the Concord High School track for a cause Saturday morning.  And the sunshine made for a good day to do it.

Unfortunately the conditions aren't always this pleasant for the people volunteers were walking for.  The walk raises money for eight Elkhart County agencies who serve the homeless.

Participants walked 12 laps around the track as part of the Homeward Bound Walk.  Carrie Zickefoose with the Elkhart County Women's Shelter said, "I'm here just to take active steps in the community setting to take a stand against homelessness and to bring awareness to the challenges that those who are homeless have in this community."

The eight groups that receive money raised from the walk are IFIT, Faith Mission, Church Community Services, Emerge Ministries, Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County, Lacasa Inc, Minority Health Coalition of Elkhart County Inc, and The Window.

Local sponsors contributed thousands of dollars to this years walk and every walker paid a $5 admission fee.  Inside the high school there were also several information booths set up about homelessness.
