Devontae Neal was schedule to announce his college choice this morning at the elementary school where he once attended. After 600 students waited over an hour for the 4-star athlete to show up, they went back to class. The two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona needed more time to finalize his decision.
This afternoon became the right time and Neal chose the Irish over Arizona, Arkansas and North Carolina. He did go to the elementary school that was so instrumental in his growth as a youngster and made the announcement.
He rushed for 1,317 yards and 16 touchdowns and reeled in 62 passes for 1,113 yards and 14 touchdowns in his senior campaign. He scored 3 td's while helping his high school win the state championship. Neal also played in the 2012 Under Armour All-America Game. Neal is a 4-star recruit with 4.4 speed.
"Deciding on a college is one of the toughest decisions a young player makes in his life, so we are very pleased with Davonte's decision to attend Notre Dame," Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly said. "Davonte was an electric playmaker in high school and was capable of making the big play any time he had the ball in his hands. He excelled as a receiver, as a running back and as a returner for Coach (Charlie) Ragle at Chaparral High School. I imagine we'll use him in a similar fashion here."
