Stand Up to Cancer prom

They came with their dancing shoes on and one mission in mind: to let loose and have a little fun.

For those battling cancer, it's sometimes difficult, or even impossible to get a night out on the town.

But students at Saint Mary's college made it happen Friday night and even brought some of them back to their youth with the Stand Up to Cancer Prom.

"Don't Stop Believin" was the theme of the Stand Up to Cancer prom.

The popular Journey song still graces prom dance floors everywhere decades after its release, and no one can help but have a good time while it plays.

But the lyrics to the song transcend the dance moves for this prom.

"Just for them to come and forget about their struggles or celebrate their accomplishments. Just have fun, celebrate their lives. Dance to their courage. Just all of it," says Devon Graham, President of the Saint Mary's Stand Up to Cancer club.

Those fighting cancer, those who won the fight, and others who just want to be there to support those with a disease that affects so many put on their party dresses and took pictures in their finest attire.

Survivors who came to the prom say they want those who are currently battling the disease to know that there are many people there to support them through their battle.

"Just to know these women here, they love you. They support you and they're here to open up their heart to you," says breast cancer survivor, Bertha Wilder.

Those attending the prom had to buy a ticket and all the proceeds help the fight against cancer.

The money will go to Memorial's Cancer Center and to the National Stand Up to Cancer organization.
