Indiana State Police seized $400,000 in heroin and made multiple arrests in South Bend after an eight month investigation.
The investigation began with an undercover drug buy in Indianapolis during the summer of 2011. Investigators say that buy led them to a suspected drug trafficking ring based in South Bend.
On Tuesday, April 10, State Police say they intercepted a heroin delivery at the Speedway gas station on Brick Road and the US-31 Bypass.
Two arrests were made on April 10. The suspected delivery man, 44-year-old Johanney Quintana of Stickney, IL, and suspected ring leader, 37-year-old Curtis Lee III of South Bend, were taken into custody.
Several other locations were also raided simultaneously in connection to the investigation. State Police and South Bend Police searched a home on the 17000 block of Darden Rd, one on the 3300 block of Woodmont Dr., and one on the 1900 block of Rockne Drive in South Bend, and a storage unit in Granger. Authorities found over $400,000 in cash, handguns, several luxury vehicles and semi-truck with trailer at the homes and storage unit. Another suspect, 38-year-old Jerome Boyd, was taken into custody during the raids.
Two more arrests were made on Friday, April 13, in Indianapolis. Police arrested 33-year-old Darnell Beverly and 29-year-old Nash Garrett. Police suspect Beverly of selling heroin to Garrett to distribute in Bloomington.
