A Benton Township mother is grieving, following the death of her young son.
Police say 22 year old Xavier Steward was found dead on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest on the 9-hundred block of Lavette Avenue in Benton Harbor early Sunday morning.
We spoke with his mother Sunday afternoon, she didn't want to talk on camera, but she told us she was at the scene looking for more information about her son's death.
She tells FOX 28 that Steward had friends all over Benton Harbor, so she wasn't surprised he'd be in the area.
She was on her way to the hospital to pick up his belongings.
Police are looking for two vehicles, a silver Dodge Charger with blue stripes and a silver Ford Focus with Indiana plates.
Investigators are not aware of any parties in the area last night or anything else that could have sparked the shooting.
Police are asking for the public's help in the investigation.
