A St. Joseph County deputy was hurt and his squad car caught fire in a crash Sunday evening.
It happened at Bittersweet and Day in Mishawaka.
Police say Patrolman Charles Flanagan was going after a car that was speeding.
Flanagan's car began to fishtail on some loose gravel, that's when he lost control and hit a Jeep that was stopped.
The squad car caught fire in the crash.
A woman who lives nearby heard it all happen and sprang into action helping the officer and the family in the Jeep.
"You know, you got five lives right there because of someone running from a police officer, which is ridiculous," says Pachia Johnson who lives near the crash site.
Flanagan, and those in the Jeep, including a baby and toddler, were all taken to the hospital, but are expected to be ok.
We're told Flanagan broke his femur.
Police need your help finding that driver who was speeding.
They're looking for a White Ford Mustang with tinted windows, last seen headed north on Bittersweet.
Call police if you have any information.
