Mayor Pete Buttigieg briefed Common Council members Monday about how the process for hiring a new police chief is going.
It's appears to be pretty early in the process.
So far the Mayor says he's still refining search criteria and hasn't accepted any formal applications yet.
He says he hopes to begin interviewing candidates by late summer, early fall.
He hopes to have the new chief in place by the end of the year.
"I don't think anything should be ruled out. I don't think any candidate should be ruled in or out. This will be a very wide-ranging search," says Buttigieg.
Right now Chuck Hurley is serving as the interim police chief.
