With the great weather in the forecast, it's the perfect time to get out and play in the dirt again. If your regular old garden just isn't cutting it, here's an idea for you, a raised garden.
Not only does it add a different element to your yard's look, it's also a prime location for certain veggies. Master Gardener Steve Kruse says a raised garden soaks up a lot more sun and you can plant your veggies closer together.
Thinking about building one of your own? Kruse says, "When you make your own soil in a raised bed garden, you'll want to emulate what you have in your regular garden so you can go to most local garden centers and you can just get some compost and topsoil mixed."
One more important thing to keep in mind is not to plant anything that takes up too much room, like watermelon. It'll grow well in a raised garden but you lose a lot of prime garden real estate.
